Narnia art activities
- MAP OF NARNIA: create an illustrated fantasy map of Narnia (or your own fictional land). Include a compass rose, mountain ranges, rivers, towns, and a title. Use watercolour washes and fine pen.
- WARDROBE DOOR: draw/paint the magical wardrobe. On one side: an ordinary dark wardrobe interior. On the other (fold-out flap): the snow-covered forest of Narnia.
- CHARACTER DESIGN: design a new Narnia creature — part human, part animal, like a Faun. Draw front and side views. Write a character profile (name, abilities, backstory).
- ILLUMINATED LETTER: in the style of Book of Kells (a CS Lewis connection — the manuscripts connect Ireland, Iona, and the imagery he would have known), illuminate the first letter of your name.
- SETTING: paint 'the lamppost in the snow' — the iconic first image of Narnia. Focus on the contrast between the warm orange lamplight and the cold blue-white of the snowy forest.
- COUNTY DOWN LANDSCAPE: photograph or sketch the view from a hill in County Down toward the sea. Compare with an illustration of Narnia. What do you see that CS Lewis might have seen?
