- 1 Y Mabinogion A collection of the oldest Welsh prose tales — written down in the 12th-14th centuries but deriving from much older oral traditions. The most important work of medieval Welsh literature.

- 3 Pryderi Son of Pwyll and Rhiannon. Prince of Dyfed. Appears across all four Branches of the Mabinogi. e.g. PRUH-deh-ree
- 4 Pwyll Pen Annwn 'Pwyll, Head of the Otherworld.' Lord of Dyfed who exchanges places with Arawn, king of the Otherworld. e.g. poo-EETHL pen AN-oon
- 5 Branwen A princess of Wales who marries the King of Ireland. Her story involves a starling that carries messages — one of the great Welsh tales of sacrifice and loss. e.g. BRAN-wen
