How to build a sentence in Irish
- ▶ BASIC STRUCTURE: Irish is Verb-Subject-Object (VSO) — the verb comes FIRST. This is opposite to English!
- ▶ EXAMPLE: Ithim úll — I eat an apple (Eat I apple)
- ▶ NEGATIVE: put 'Ní' before the verb: Ní ithim úll — I don't eat an apple
- ▶ QUESTION: put 'An' before the verb: An ithim úll? — Do I eat an apple?
- ▶ WITH 'TÁ': use 'Tá mé ag...' + verbal noun for continuous: Tá mé ag ithe úll — I am eating an apple
- ▶ BUILD A SENTENCE: Téim ar scoil gach lá — I go to school every day
- ▶ PRACTICE: say 5 things you do each day using these verbs
