How to use vocabulary mats
Laminate and place on desks for reference during writing tasks. Display on the board at the start of a lesson. Use as a retrieval activity — cover the definitions and ask pupils to recall them. Add new words to the mat as the unit progresses.
For EAL pupils, vocabulary mats are especially valuable as a quick reference that reduces cognitive load during tasks. Consider printing them at A5 for individual desk copies, or A3 for display.
