What you'll need

  • Marbles (3–5 per child)
  • Poster or acrylic paint
  • Shallow tray or box lid (larger than A4)
  • White cartridge paper cut to fit the tray
  • Spoons
  • Aprons

How to do it

  1. Cut paper to fit inside the tray.
  2. Place the paper in the tray.
  3. Spoon a small blob of paint onto 3 marbles (different colours).
  4. Drop the marbles gently into the tray.
  5. Tilt the tray from side to side — the marbles roll and leave trails.
  6. When happy with the result, remove the marbles and leave to dry.
💡 Tips Use a shoebox lid — the sides keep the marbles contained. Acrylic paint produces more vivid results than poster paint. Works beautifully on black paper too.
