One-Point Perspective Drawing

Teaching children to draw three-dimensional space using a single vanishing point. Start with a simple corridor or road, then progress to cityscapes or rooms. Highly satisfying results that look impressive.

What you'll need

  • Cartridge paper A4 or A3
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Black fine-liner or pen
  • Coloured pencils or markers for finishing

How to do it

  1. Draw a horizontal line across the middle of the paper — this is the horizon/eye level.
  2. Mark a point in the middle of the horizon — the vanishing point (VP).
  3. Draw a square or rectangle in the centre of the page (this is the front of a corridor/room).
  4. Draw light pencil lines from each corner of the rectangle to the vanishing point.
  5. Add walls, floor, and ceiling lines parallel to the original rectangle.
  6. Erase guide lines, add details (doors, windows, tiles).
  7. Finish with pen and colour.
💡 Tips Model on a whiteboard first, talking through each step. Children who rush often place the rectangle off-centre — a quick check before they commit with pen saves frustration.
