What you'll need
- Black sugar paper or card A3
- Oil pastels or chalk pastels in bright colours
- Metallic paint pens or gel pens (gold, silver)
- White paint (optional — for stars/dots)
How to do it
- CHALK PASTEL FIREWORKS: on black paper, draw radiating lines outward from a central point using bright chalk pastels. Smudge slightly with a finger. Add white chalk dots for stars. Blend multiple colours.
- OIL PASTEL AND INK RESIST: draw firework explosions in oil pastel (press hard). Wash black ink or paint over the entire page. The oil resists the black, leaving vivid fireworks.
- PAINT SPLATTER: place a small blob of bright paint, cover with a straw and blow outward to create explosion shapes. Add gold/silver dots.
💡 Tips
Black paper is essential for this — bright colours are dramatically more vivid on black than on white. Chalk pastels smudge easily; spray with fixative if you want to display them.
