What you'll need

  • Raw eggs (minimum 2 per child — some will crack)
  • Thick needle or pin
  • Bowl
  • Egg cups or stands for drying
  • Acrylic paint, washi tape, fine markers, or Ukrainian egg dye
  • Clear varnish

How to do it

  1. Pierce a small hole in one end of the egg with a thick needle.
  2. Pierce a slightly larger hole in the other end.
  3. Blow through the small hole — the egg contents come out the large end into a bowl.
  4. Rinse the shell gently under running water. Leave to dry completely.
  5. Decorate using acrylic paint and a fine brush — start with background colour.
  6. Add detail when dry.
  7. Optional: varnish to protect.
💡 Tips This is harder than it looks — try it yourself first. Some children will need help with the blowing. Accept that some eggs crack — have extras. The broken shells can be crushed for mosaic use.
