What you'll need

  • Cardboard boxes of various sizes
  • Cardboard tubes (paper towel, kitchen roll, toilet roll)
  • Bottle caps, lids, yoghurt pots
  • Masking tape, PVA glue
  • Silver and grey paint, or paint in any colours
  • Googly eyes, foil, stickers for decoration

How to do it

  1. Collect and organise materials by type — boxes, tubes, small items.
  2. Plan the robot: what is the body? The head? Arms? Legs?
  3. Assemble the large structural pieces first using masking tape (stronger than glue at this stage).
  4. Add smaller details once the main structure is stable.
  5. Paint — silver/grey is classic for robots, but any scheme works.
  6. When paint is dry, add details: googly eyes, foil panels, bottle cap buttons.
💡 Tips Start collecting 2-3 weeks before the session. Ask families to send in materials. Send a list home: small boxes (cereal, shoe), tubes, yoghurt pots, egg boxes.
