What you'll need

  • Paper lunch bags
  • Googly eyes
  • Coloured card for features
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers, paint, or coloured pencils
  • Wool, tissue paper, or crepe paper for hair

How to do it

  1. Identify the flat bottom of the bag as the face — this folds as the 'mouth' when a hand goes in.
  2. Glue eyes to the front of the flat bottom panel.
  3. Cut a mouth shape from red card, glue inside the flap.
  4. Add a nose, ears, hair, or other features as appropriate.
  5. Decorate the body of the bag.
  6. Allow to dry, then use by inserting a hand so the flat base is held by the fingers.
💡 Tips Fabulous for retelling stories — assign different characters for a guided retell activity. Also great for after-school club: a quick, satisfying project with no mess and a clear end product.
