- Reading — listen to and discuss a wider range of texts; identify themes and conventions
- Writing — extend the range of sentences with more than one clause; use a wider range of conjunctions
- Punctuation — inverted commas with all the punctuation that goes inside; apostrophes for plural possession
- Spelling — completion of Years 3 and 4 statutory spelling list (100 words); homophones; prefixes and suffixes
- Grammar — fronted adverbials with commas; expanded noun phrases; pronouns to avoid repetition
🔢 Maths curriculum focus
- Number and place value — numbers up to 10,000; rounding to nearest 10, 100, 1,000
- Addition and subtraction — formal column methods to four digits
- Multiplication and division — recall multiplication and division facts for ALL times tables up to 12 × 12
- Fractions — count up and down in hundredths; recognise common equivalent fractions; add and subtract fractions with the same denominator
- Decimals — recognise tenths and hundredths; round decimals with one decimal place
- Measurement — perimeter; convert between different units (km/m, hour/minute)
- Statistics — interpret discrete and continuous data using bar charts and time graphs
- Geometry — classify quadrilaterals and triangles; coordinates in the first quadrant
Phonics: All children should now be reading fluently. Targeted intervention if still needed.

About the UK National Curriculum
The UK National Curriculum (2014) defines what state-funded primary schools in England teach. Children move through Key Stages: Reception (EYFS, age 4-5), Key Stage 1 (Years 1-2, ages 5-7), Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3-4, ages 7-9), and Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5-6, ages 9-11).
